INFANT CARE

Infant Care and Daycare in San Diego, Six Weeks to 23 Months

At Early Learners Children’s Academy, our infant rooms hold eight babies, cared for by teachers who learn your baby’s rhythms rather than asking your baby to learn ours, and who will tell you how the whole day went before you have left the parking lot. Infant care is offered at both our Mira Mesa and Old Town campuses.

Care that notices the little things

Leaving your baby with someone new is hard, and the questions that matter most are the small ones, like who will notice when your little one isn’t eating well.

With only eight babies in the room, teachers learn those signs early.

We follow the routine you keep at home, so in the first week we ask a lot about feeding, naps and what settles your baby, and keep asking as things change.

The room is built for a baby just beginning to explore, with textures and sounds in easy reach and teachers on the floor with them.

How the day actually works

We do not run one schedule for the whole room. Feeding, naps and play follow your baby’s own rhythm, and the day is built around it.

Your routine comes first

In practice, the first week is us learning your routine, so the day here starts to look like the day at home.

Why the ratio matters

The room is never doing one thing at once, which is a big part of why the ratio matters as much as it does.

Written down as it happens

What stays consistent is what gets written down: bottles, naps and anything worth mentioning go into Brightwheel as it happens.

What your baby is learning all day

Babies learn most from a routine they can rely on and a room worth exploring, which is what the program is built around.

Senses

Textures, weights and sounds introduced deliberately, one handful at a time.

Language

Teachers narrate, read aloud and sing all day long.

Movement

Floor time, reaching, rolling, and pulling up, at their own pace.

Trust

The same familiar faces every morning, building everything else.

The details that let you concentrate at work

Sleep

Every baby has their own age-appropriate space, following safe sleep practices rather than a set nap time, supervised throughout.

Feeding

Bottles, formula and breast milk are labeled individually and handled to your baby’s own feeding plan, with refrigeration where needed.

Ratio

Four babies to one teacher, so there is always someone free to pick your baby up.

Who is in the building

Entry at both campuses is controlled and tracked all day.

Certification

Every teacher is CPR and First Aid certified, meeting State of California requirements.

What to bring

Diapers, wipes, formula or breast milk, bottles, food and a change of clothes. Families supply these so each baby’s routine stays their own.

Peace of mind, from drop-off to pickup

The teachers who know your baby by heart, and the full picture of the day waiting for you when you walk back in.

The people caring for your baby

Every teacher we hire has at least 12 Early Childhood Education units in child development, and all are CPR and First Aid certified. We work hard to keep this room consistent, so your baby sees the same faces every morning.

You will always know how the day went

Every day you go home with the full picture: bottles, solids, diapers, naps and anything else worth mentioning. Our teachers are also at the door at pickup, where the best details come out.

What families tell us

★★★★★

My husband and I feel really lucky to have found ELCA for our infant daughter. We started her in daycare when she was 5.5 months old, and since she’s our first baby, it was extremely difficult for us emotionally… However, Celene and all the teachers… have been beyond amazing, extremely supportive, and super communicative.

I’ve had my 2 year old there since 6 months old (about 1.5 years). I can’t speak more highly of the teachers and staff. They truly care about the students. This is a smaller school but I like it that way. ELCA is a super high quality daycare.

Questions parents ask us about infant care

You provide the personal supplies your baby uses each day: diapers, wipes, formula or breast milk, bottles, food, and a change of clothes. Bringing these yourselves keeps your baby’s care personal to them rather than standardized across the room.
No. Rather than running the whole room on one schedule, we follow each baby’s own routine and developmental stage. Feeding, naps, diapering, play and activities happen throughout the day according to what your baby needs.
Every baby has their own age-appropriate sleep space. Our teachers follow safe sleep practices along with your baby’s individual needs rather than a set nap time, and sleeping infants are supervised by classroom staff throughout.
Bottles, formula, breast milk and other feeding items are labeled individually and handled according to your baby’s own feeding plan. Anything needing refrigeration is stored properly, and teachers work with you to keep the routine you’ve already established at home.

When your baby turns two

Your child moves up into Toddler Care in the same building, with teachers they already recognize from the hallway and a routine that will feel familiar from the first morning.
